About the event
Organiser: Sue Brinsden
Distance: 13 miles
Booking Deadline: Thursday 14th August
A circular walk from Lewes station taking in Sussex rivers, downs and villages. We will meet 10am at Lewes station (Train leaves London Victoria at 8.54am).
We'll walk in the footsteps of Virginia Wolfe along the Sussex Ouse Valley Way to Rodmell and on to Southease to see the 12th century wall paintings in the church, then climb up to the South Downs for far reaching views, descend to Glynde for a possible tea room or pub stop and then continue upwards again to the iron age hill fort on Mount Caburn before returning to Lewes where there are plentiful opportunities for food and drink.
For anyone wanting a shorter walk there are two options:
1) A flat 5.5 mile walk will take you to Southease from where trains return to Lewes. You could visit Monks House in Rodmell (National Trust, booking required) or lunch at the Abergavenny Arms (booking recommended) before reaching Southease for a relaxing day out.
2) If we are tired or it is getting late we could finish at Glynde and get the train back to Lewes from there (9.6 miles with one hill).
Day walks are open to club members and prospective members alike and there is no charge for attending but please book your space via the website. Confirmation of meeting time, train times and any other relevant information will then be sent out to everyone who has booked.
